Gainesville has many trails located within the city and just a short distance away, as well as many surrounding roads great for cycling. San Felasco Hammock Preserve and the Ocala Mountain Bike Trails are a close drive for the best mountain biking singletrack in the state. Gainesville also has numerous parks scattered across the city with short trails, paved and not. There is also the network of off-street connector trails that run throughout the city, including the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail.
