Gainesville is one of the best cycling communities in the country. The city is well adapted for bicycle commuting with a well connected infrastructure of bike lanes and paved paths, and future plans will only make it better. The League of American Bicyclists rates Gainesville a silver on their list of Bicycle Friendly Communities, the best in the state. There are organized group road rides everyday with the local clubs. Check out our pages on the Gainesville Cycling Club, Team Florida, or the TriGators to get riding with a group and meet some local riders. Short mountain biking trails can be found throughout the city in many of the parks. Fifteen minutes north on 441 is San Felasco Hammock Preserve and over 30 miles of singletrack mountain biking trails and about 40 minutes south are the Ocala Mountain Biking trails and Cross Florida Greenway with over 50 miles of trails, dirt jumps, and even Florida's very own freeride course. There are many organizations that run races in the area including cyclo-cross, MTB, road, and triathlons that can be found in our race section. Gainesville is also host to the Downtown Criterium that runs through the cobble streets downtown at the begining of every year. These pages will introduce you to the area and its groups, but you check out the calendar and news for upcoming events, rides, and races. Don't forget to stop by the local shops, too!
